tangrammatic : juan alcalá

tangrammatic = tangram + grammatic

A personal homage to the chinese game tangram.

when I decide to take a photograph I automatically start to detect the reasons why I actually decided to do so.
forms, textures, colors, patterns, background, all the elements exposed within the field of view merge together as an already solved puzzle.
such an intellectual process leads me then to the adjustment of the framing / composition operation.
the photographic series tangrammatic intends to be an experiment to reveal what could be the opposite visual process in a very abstract manner, using the square and its subsequent orthogonal and diagonal regular subdivisions as a basis to progressively dissect, mask and unmask portions of the image to finally reveal it again.

this series was shown in zürich between september 24th & october 28th 2015 at the photobastei 2.0 and is currently exhibit at tillsamman
