rescued wooden stool
something very usual in the streets of zurich is to find objects that were left behind for one reason or another, as is the case of this wooden stool, rescued in winter 2015.
i find it to be very elegant / modest / beautiful example of the swiss carpentry tradition. the slender legs, the joinery, the whole silhouette...
i guess it was discarded because the seating board was damaged beyond recovery, it looked as if it was exposed for long time to the elements. also the other pieces were fallng apart and the original white paint was peeling off. so after cleaning it, i dismantled what years of abandon did not, scraped the paint off using a spatula so some of it reamined on the surface as a kind of patina. i removed the old glue from the joints, glued them together again and then proceed to make a new seating board with a nice looking chamfered edge and a circular grabing hole, finallyand to enhance the contrast i decided to dye the board with a mix of chestnut / black organic ink for wood.
